I don’t know if it’s the geek in me or just that I watched the most recent Big Bang Theory but I’ve been a little too excited with May the 4th (be with you) coming up tomorrow. That and getting back into the rock and metal I used to always listen too and mixing it back in with the classics that get played at work on Radio 2. So I digress but I felt a little rock chick in of all places Primark and picked up the Pink Floyd T-Shirt I’m wearing. The Primark tees are kinda kicking ass at the moment along with another geeky love an old skool Marvel tee. I’m also sporting some heat free curls which is basically what my hair looks like now when I don’t do anything too it. I was so shocked myself this morning that I went with it and kept it natural along with the frizzy bits.

The Dark Side – How To & Mini Product Reviews

After seeing Elese Aesthete get her Mac Lip Pencil in Nightmoth last week I kinda remembered how much I still love a dark shade which has kicked off the dark side look. To get myself back into it I did a watered down version today. I used Macs Lip Pencil in Vino a dark purple which I used more as a stain basically smudging the shade out on my lips. I then went over lightly with the Korres Plum Lip Butter to give some shiny and stop my lips drying out which allows to easy top up of colour. I’m still on the fence about the Smashbox Always Sharp Eyeliner as it does give a a strong black line but it has it’s draw back, easy to get sharp but I’m finding application a little fiddly. That and it sometimes bleeds into the corner of my eyes but I guess that adds a little grunge to the look. I even added a little bit of the Loreal Colour Infallible in Burning Black along the lash line to add a little sparkle with the angled eyeliner brush.

A new standout for me has been the Revlon Photoready 3d Volume Mascara in Blackest Black. This is similar to the 2true Pro Volume with the spiky wands but the Revlon is less wet and I’m happy with it. One coat is enough and it doesn’t clump on me , two coats can get a little spidery. When I got this mascara at Boots it was while the 3 for 2 offer was on. I picked up the Loreal True Match foundation which I’m not really loving. I don’t know if it’s my skin or what but I can’t apply it with my fingers without looking cakey and seperating. Up to now though when I used the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge dry with the True Match it’s pretty good. Can’t decide if the shades a little dark, may do for summer. For a little bit of spring time glow I used the Mua Bon Bon Blusher which you need only a dab as it’s rather pigmented for such an affordable brand.

I forgot to put the Mac Select Cover Concealer which I used under my eyes in the photo above. I’m thinking I need a new concealer as this one is feeling too heavy for this time of year. If you have any suggestions I’d love to know what you’re using. I s it wrong I’m really wanting to swatch the Mac Amplified lipstick in none other than the shade Darkside a deep burgundy. What I’m thinking is I would have a reason to pick up the Nightmoth lip pencil at the same time. How about that to justify buying them both? lol

Could this weather just make up it’s mind, I left the house it’s rainy and by the time I’m back the sun blazes through the dark cloud. How do you pick an outfit for this kind of day? I wanted to do something a bit different an show you how my makeup looked at the end of the day and what lasted. Also how the new Smashbox Always Sharp eyeliner I recently picked up stood up to a full days wear. It was applied about 11am and taken off at about 8pm. Don’t you just love the amount of daylight we are getting I know I am.

The closest to cute I will ever get, feeling the whimsy of Easter!

In the spirit of full disclossure I’m not exactly great at eyeliner. This is the first time I’ve got past the front door with winged eyeliner. Please don’t judge but this took me about 30 minutes to do my make up and 20 of those were doing the eyeliner! But this look is all about the eyeliner. When I picked up the Smashbox Always Sharp Eyeliner it was for that reason always sharp and in theory it works. The end gets blunt you pop the lid back on twist it shut then take it back off again and it’s sharp again. In this way this is beauty magic as it doesn’t waste any and no need for an extra sharper.

Applying Smashbox Always Sharp

I found the easiest way was to pull my lid outwards to get a smooth surface to apply. It wasn’t perfect but it was reasonably easy. Getting the wings even and adjusting for a non symmetrical face that’s where it became a pain. In the end I cheated I applied the angled lined up the kinda smushed it above this and filled in . Next I took my trust cotton bud and micellar water and used this to clean the line up. Because it’s waterproof you can kinda nudge it into place a little as well as sweep off the excess. I did end up doing this multiple times I’m a perfectionist till I get board then go with what’s close enough.

These were also taken after the 9 hours it had been on. About 95% was still there pretty much how I had left it. The other 5% was where a bit had ended up on the lower waterline which I’m considering picking up the nude version to go there. The other bit was it had fuzzed on the inner of the eye but I think I applied it a bit too far in as this happens with other eyeliners just usually worse. Do I love it I’m not sure but will I work at it? Yes I will as it was £16 and I’m hoping with time my skills will improve. Any ideas or tips let me know.

As for the rest of my make up I only apply the Studio Skin foundation lightly as it goes well with the Benefit Porefessional primer it’s just a tad took dark to be worn anything more than a light coverage. The blusher had long gone by then and I never got round to reapplying the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Sex Machine which lasted about 5 – 6 hours but I don’t mind that so much as it’s a nude shade to begin with so the wear wasn’t as obvious.

It may seem like an obvious concept but Sundays you either get nothing done and just relax or get everything you couldn’t otherwise get done the rest of the week. If your leaving the house do you have to be done up to perfection. A little goes a long way and spring is here so make the most of the sun.

Waste No Time – What I Wore

For my base I want as little as possible so I can get used to these warmer days without getting flustered. So I have been testing out the Smashbox Studio Finish Foundation. I still think it’s a great buildable base I just need an equivalent high-end or a good dupe as the shades just aren’t light enough. I have only a very thin layer on just to even my complexion out. On top I have powdered my t-zone lightly with Macs Studio Fix Plus as it’s great for setting and keeping the oils at bay.As it’s closer to my natural shade when it’s over the Smashbox it also helps to illuminate the center or my face giving more shape to it.

On the lips I just used the Revlon Color Burst Matte Balm in Sultry. I few quick swipes is all it takes and for me it’s an easy touch up if I do need to. Brows are filled with my old faithful Natural Collection eye shadow in Crushed Walnut as they tend to start to lighten at this time of year, by summer they will be blonde. My new fave mascara and a super budget buy at just £3 is the 2True Pro Wow Volumising in Black. It’s easy to apply with the plastic wand and up to now rarely clumps and coats them to a deep black shade. I finished off by adding a hint of colour to my cheeks with the wonderful and cheap Makeup Academy blush in Bon Bon at just £1.

In an effort to waste little time I didn’t even straighten my hair I just let it dry for an hour then finished it with a blow dry. Later in the week I’ll let you know the new products I’ve been using including the brand BlowPro. I’ve already mentioned the BlowPro Faux Dry Shampoo here.

Last Saturday I wanted to go a little bit more on the au naturel side with my make up but having just bough the Smashbox Always Sharp Eyeliner I decided that I would make it the focal point of my look.

While writing down all the bits I’ve used I came to realised how expensive a set these are together , at least for me anyway. It’s half expensive and half super cheap and yet they do work well together. I’m happy to have found a foundation my Porefessional primer works with but not so sure completely on the shade match but I’ll explain that most likely next week once I’ve fully road tested the Smashbox foundation. Some of these bits could easily be swaped out for other more affordable ones which I hope to find in the future. I’d love to find a dupe for my Clinique Poppy Plum blend as it’s just my absolute go to shade for blusher for my pale skin.

#fotd – Minimal + Revlon Kissable Balm Stain… 3 hours Later

Revlon Kissable Balm Stain in Crush

I know I should have done a before photo but it was a bit on the fly when I took this photo a few minutes after getting home. My hair is wind-swept if I’m being nice but more like a fluffy mess. I didn’t have the patience for much make up I just wanted to look like I was alive with a few key focal points to divert away from the spots that have recently appeared.

I first read about the Revlon Kissable Balm Stains here on Through The Looking Glass And Down The Rabbit Hole when I first started loving blogs and they have been at the back of mind ever since. I’m not one for glossy shades so it’s taken a while to have a try. The shade I got was Crush a pinky plum shade that is for me quite a statement bold lip but with a sheer wash making it much more wearable. I was worried this would come off after I’d had something to drink but it was fine. When I got back I knew I had to write something as even though the shade had worn out to its base stain which was a faded red slightly plum colour it still looked really nice. It was only three hours and I could have re applied but it wasn’t necessary which is the bit I liked. I did have a little bit of the white little bits you get in the corner of your mouth but this was fixable without staining your skin.

The other part was the eyes as I’ve really been focusing on getting better at eyeliner as I find I can do my right eye but get to my left and its usually a mess. I commented on how I loved a slightly smokey eyeliner I thought it was this post but can’t find it now Think Love Makeup that she showed from a back stage photo from a fashion show. She explained a good way to do this was using an angled brush to get right into the lash line with a gel eyeliner then go over it with powder to give a softer line and to set the gel. I love this because I’ve now got a great use for the Bourjois Extreme eye shadow in Black. It’s baked so I used a little setting spray to wet it to get a nice line then used it dry to smoke it out over the top of my Maybelline gel liner in my tight line. It seems more complex than it is but it gave a really nice look and great for unsteady hands like mine. I went all Red Bull and attempted wings but as you can see they didn’t make the cut I failed miserably.
