10 Minutes Left – Took Too Long Doing My Hair #fotd

When it comes to time management when I’m getting ready I fail every time. I’ve cut out a lot of time by washing my hair the night before this means the last bit can be quickly blown dry. When it comes to my Ghds I think for me time stops, “let’s not burn your fingers or ears this time”, ” where’s that hair clip gone?” and ” did I use heat protector on that section?” all run through my head. I forget about everything else and time disappears. Reality kicks back in and were meant to leave in like 20 minutes or we’ll miss the bus that gives 10 minutes left for makeup and the other to run around & work out what I’m wearing.

When my brain eventually panics  I reach for my trusted makeup choices. I seem to have built this up around more expensive makeup but it’s just the things I know work or I can apply quickly. We all have different skin types and shades so steps could easily be swapped out for the pieces that work best for you.

10 Minutes Left – The Go To Kit

I just can’t get away without using one my gigantic pores need some form of filler to hide them at least from my sight. In I go with my long time friend my Benefit Porefessional. This is a complete love hate relationship as it’s fine with the foundation below but liquids can go either way. Few get along with this but I have a feeling it maybe me not giving it time to set? Any thoughts on this one let me know how you get on with it?

For speed and a nice smooth coverage I reach for my Mac Studio Fix powder foundation. I can apply it with my blush brush all over & go back in where I need more coverage. If I’m not having a spotty phase then I’ll go without concealer but if I did I apply it first before the powder. I like that it’s light enough in shade and finely milled so it suits me great.

Set Your Powder

This may seem like extra work to something you’ve already applied but this helps to keep your makeup on your face for longer. It also removes that powder finish making it look more natural. My setting spray of choice is Urban Decays All Nighter. To speed this process up spray onto a large powder brush and pat across the face. It will dry faster this way rather that doing the four direct sprays. That’s because I hate getting that taste on my lips and having to wait 10 minutes just for it to dry.

I don’t do contouring or bronzing not yet anyway. I do know however that you have to add colour back into the face or you’ll look 2D or zombie-fied! My Clinique All Over Colour in Poppy Plum Blend is just right for my talent level (zero). It has a shimmer that translates to a sheen where it becomes highlighter & blusher in one. This saves time and I always follow it with a little more setting spray.

For this I used a light base shade all over then went in with a contour colour for depth. This month it’s been a half filled 4 Mac palette using Blanc Type (base) & Cork (contour). Love Blanc Type but in need of a deeper shade than Cork (suggestions?). I had to include the Mac 217 brush as it’s what I’ve used every time & it hasn’t failed me yet. I also did my brows with Macs brow pencil in Lingering this was purely picked up because it’s super speedy. I’m still not convinced it’s the right shade for me. It think the girl at Mac thought I was gonna sharpie my brows in and suggested the lighter shade option! On to mascara and for speeds sake I went for the 2true volume over the Revlon 3D PhotoReady mascara. For some reason its less work and hassle with the 2true, the same spiky plastic wand but easier to use. One coat and I have super black lashes.

I did a basic eye look at a more budget friendly price which is basically a dupe for the above here. Both work well but my Mac set is me building together a palette for traveling with that’s compact.

When I’m lacking on time I always forget about my lips until the last second purely because I find it something hardest to get right. If I’m not happy with what I’ve chosen I’ll be unhappy with it all day. I usually go for the Nyc Applicious Glossy Balm as it covers colour and fixed dry lips. I think these are being discontinued so my alternative that’s very similar is the Carmex Moisture Plus in Berry. It’s the only one with a decent amount of colour to it in the range. I love how compact it is so I can top up through the day.

When you have 10 minutes left to do your makeup

what are the things your reach for first?

Easy Eyes – Brows, Lashes & Eyeshadow – For £10.98

Easy Eyes - Brows, Lashes & Eyeshadow - All For Under 10 eyes

Easy Eyes – Why?

I’m pretty sure this is self-explanatory but to be able to do you brows, lashes & eyeshadow all for just under £11 is pretty darn good. Even if you only use this as an easy eyes emergency set you can pick up in most town centers. It’s not meant to be that wow factor but a quick polished pick me up when you want to make the effort but don’t have time. I do this look often as a general daily makeup if I’m going to the shops. It only takes a few minutes and could easily be paired with a nude lipstick as much as your favourite red without looking out of place.

I like to add some brightness to the eye and some depth to the crease but still very natural. The brush I have above has been discontinued (link below is to the replacement). It has flat bristles with a curved edge allowing for laying down colour and using the very tips of the brush to get right into the crease with accuracy. The mascara gives a good coat of black to define the eyes and open them up. The brows for me at the moment are just a way to darken the blonde bits that stand out like a sore thumb. I’ve been using this for over a year and I still go back to it even when trying other brow products. The angled brush is perfect for getting the shadow just onto the hairs or with its fine edge getting powder into sparse areas of the brow. You can also use the base shade as a matte highlighter under the brow to define them.

2true Mascara Volume Or Length

2true Mascara Volume & Length Review - products

Something no one will likely have noticed is I’ve never done a review of any mascara. I’ve mentioned a love for Maybelines Great Lash in blackest black because it was all I used for years. I trusted it would get my lashes super black and stay there for most of the day. I’ve tried a few since then and I’m now trying out a couple from 2true. Thinking about volume and length I don’t really believe a mascara can give me it unless you get fancy with the fiber mascaras but even then it’s building the mascara on top of something else. A mascara is essentially a liquid we brush through our lashes coating them in colour.

A brush can only do so much to curve the lash and keep it held that way while the mascara dries right ? Yes you can use your eye lash curlers and the mascara can maybe hold that shape but not curl it it’s self.

2true Mascara Volume & Length Review - no mascara

It’s a love hate relationship as you can see above my lashes look non-existent on their own. They’re not super long or voluminous so I have to wear mascara or any makeup look would seem unfinished. It’s suggested on most sites to bin them every three months which for me is a high turn over, more like every 6 months. I just feel like if it’s a short-term thing I can’t invest in it the way I would a lipstick or blusher. It’s also a very fickle thing mascara use it one day it’s super wet then the next its dried out a little or goes gunky. Then if you have any eye infections then out with all the mascaras you’ve recently used as they are a breeding ground for bacteria.

With that in mind I’ve stuck to buying drugstore, I still expect them to live up to my own standards still. For me I want my light brown lashes to be the blackest black they can be. I hate clumps so mascara for me has to be a one coat wonder. Finally I don’t want to find it at the end of the day fallen giving me the panda eye look.

2true Mascara Volume & Length Review - with mascara

2true Mascaras

There not fancy mascaras but at £3 I wasn’t expecting shiny posh gold packaging. However I do like how easy it is to find them within my makeup stash the florescent yellow and pink really stand out. The brushes below as you can see are the plastic spiked ones. I didn’t think I would like them as much but the do apply the mascara as easily as the traditional spoolies. The only difference in the brushes are the fact the lengthening curve inward in the middle and the volume curves out at the middle. The photo above shows you can at least now see I have eye lashes.

2true Mascara Volume Or Length - wands

A Perfect Middle Ground

I kinda wish there was mish-mash of the two and I’m half tempted after seeing the close up to do it. I prefer the brush on the lengthening mascara as it really separates the lashes out and I can get right to the base of the lashes without any trouble. The volume one has a better formula and seems to thicken each of the lashes and made them stand out more. neither for me really gave way to the claim they were meant for as both eyes look almost identical.

No Love For The Bottom Lash

Nether of them really did it for me when it comes to the bottom lashes. The plastic spiky wands really irritated me. They felt like the were scratching my skin, this is the one place I’d be tempted to put money in and get round to trying the Clinique Bottom Lash mascara.

I think for me if I repurchase one over the other it would be the 2true Wow Volume mascara and I would because 2true is such good value that I don’t have to worry either if anything happens to it or the formula goes odd half way through having it.

2true is found in Superdrug the Wow Volume and Pro Lengthening are both £3.

It may seem like an obvious concept but Sundays you either get nothing done and just relax or get everything you couldn’t otherwise get done the rest of the week. If your leaving the house do you have to be done up to perfection. A little goes a long way and spring is here so make the most of the sun.

Waste No Time – What I Wore

For my base I want as little as possible so I can get used to these warmer days without getting flustered. So I have been testing out the Smashbox Studio Finish Foundation. I still think it’s a great buildable base I just need an equivalent high-end or a good dupe as the shades just aren’t light enough. I have only a very thin layer on just to even my complexion out. On top I have powdered my t-zone lightly with Macs Studio Fix Plus as it’s great for setting and keeping the oils at bay.As it’s closer to my natural shade when it’s over the Smashbox it also helps to illuminate the center or my face giving more shape to it.

On the lips I just used the Revlon Color Burst Matte Balm in Sultry. I few quick swipes is all it takes and for me it’s an easy touch up if I do need to. Brows are filled with my old faithful Natural Collection eye shadow in Crushed Walnut as they tend to start to lighten at this time of year, by summer they will be blonde. My new fave mascara and a super budget buy at just £3 is the 2True Pro Wow Volumising in Black. It’s easy to apply with the plastic wand and up to now rarely clumps and coats them to a deep black shade. I finished off by adding a hint of colour to my cheeks with the wonderful and cheap Makeup Academy blush in Bon Bon at just £1.

In an effort to waste little time I didn’t even straighten my hair I just let it dry for an hour then finished it with a blow dry. Later in the week I’ll let you know the new products I’ve been using including the brand BlowPro. I’ve already mentioned the BlowPro Faux Dry Shampoo here.

smashbox fotd - all makeup used

Last Saturday I wanted to go a little bit more on the au naturel side with my make up but having just bough the Smashbox Always Sharp Eyeliner I decided that I would make it the focal point of my look.

Smashbox fotd always sharp eyeliner - mi collage

While writing down all the bits I’ve used I came to realised how expensive a set these are together , at least for me anyway. It’s half expensive and half super cheap and yet they do work well together. I’m happy to have found a foundation my Porefessional primer works with but not so sure completely on the shade match but I’ll explain that most likely next week once I’ve fully road tested the Smashbox foundation. Some of these bits could easily be swaped out for other more affordable ones which I hope to find in the future. I’d love to find a dupe for my Clinique Poppy Plum blend as it’s just my absolute go to shade for blusher for my pale skin.
