When I started trying multiple foundations to find the one I never noticed how tricky it really is. I can give you the steps I go through on How To Find Your Perfect Foundation but I still haven’t quite found mine yet. The latest one I keep going back to trying is Estee Lauder Double Wear Light which I just seem drawn to using. It’s got all the right ideas but is it for me? If not, is it for you?
Double Wear Light
15-hour wear, light as air: long-wear makeup is now lightweight makeup. It’s makeup that keeps up. Fresh, natural, comfortable. Goes on sheer, leaves skin free to breathe all day.Controls oil. Resists smudging and won’t “melt” off through heat and humidity. For a look that stays vibrant and fresh whether it’s a workday, a workout or a weekend. Smooth it on once and don’t think twice about it. – Estee Lauder
I got this as a sample when I bought the Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer as I’m looking for a long-lasting base but nothing as heavy as the original Double Wear. I choose the lightest shade 0.5 as I’m that pale & thought when I sampled it in store it would be a little dark but I was wrong. This looks quite thick in the pot but has a lovely slip to it making it easy to get a light versus medium coverage before it dries down. As I blend this in with my fingers it seems to lighten up. I’m assuming it’s a low pigment foundation which I’ve always prefered as you can build it where needed. This sets to a smooth velvet finish & feels lovely on my skin. In fact it feels very similar to Max Factors Color Adapt foundation but smoother.
Double Wear Light On It’s Own
I took this photo on Saturday & from this distance you can still see a little of the darker pigmentation at the top of my cheeks. My cheeks also come through a little red but they do with most foundations. Sometime I don’t even bother with blush, it’s already naturally there! I still always go with lighter coverage because I don’t want that porcelain mask effect. I like that my skin looks like skin, however because this is an oil control foundation it just doesn’t suit me. Everywhere looks perfect until I apply it to my nose which has big pores & is really dry lately. This has happened to most of the bases I’ve tried so no fault to the foundations, it’s just not meant for me. The odd thing is I however I apply it the foundation sits in my pores lighting them up like a Christmas tree. If I apply the Double Wear Light Concealer with a small blending brush it gets into the pores & sets quicker giving a more seamless skin. This isn’t really the answer as it still shows dry flakes of skin up but it’s a mini fix for my pores. I just think the liquid foundations seem to slip out of pores or fills them in which neither is good for me.
Who This Would Suit
So it’s not for dry skin gals that’s ok I’m moving on to new things but I can see the oily girls loving this. When I did wear it the longevity was the best out of the ones I’ve tried. Even on rare sunny days this held its own against the dreaded feel of your foundation slipping off. This would be great for long days out or long nights partying. As a bride to be I don’t think it’s enough coverage alone but with the concealer it would be a duo made in heaven on oilier skin types.
What are your favourite long-lasting foundations? I’m tempted to try Macs new Long Wear Nourishing foundation as it sounds like it might be what I’m searching for? Have you tried it? Or do you know of a hydrating long wear formula I must try?
