So you probably already know I’m on about the Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils, that’s a mouth full! Can’t we go back to shorter names like matte, glossy & simply lipstick or lip pencil, I digress. Then again I hate seeing numbers instead of names when it comes to colours, unless in Nars case where I can’t pronounce half of them. Continue reading “Matte Lip Pencils To Dupe Bobbi Brown & Nars”
Let’s just say the obvious here, I look nothing like Chloë Moretz & no amount of makeup can change that. Shes know best for her role as Hit-Girl in Kick Ass but I loved her the most in Let Me In (Let The Right One In). Seeing this look on the cover of Allure looked much more possible than most do to recreate. I loved that this vintage-esque sultry siren was achieveable with drugstore makeup & with a base of your choice these could suit almost anyone. That & I just happened to buy the eyeliner in question the week before I got my copy of the September issue of Allure, fate I kid you not! Now Allure is an American beauty magazine but luckily only the Maybelline Master Glaze in Coral is USA only.
The reason I wanted to recreate it for you is so you know if I can then you can too. It works well as a transitional look from day to night. All in the blink of an eye can we transform the face with a new slick of lipstick. The Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Sex Machine is my go to shade for day time wear. A long-lasting formula that’s comfortable on the lips.
Chloë’s Red Lips
So when it came to getting the lip colour something like what Chloë is wearing I then realised I don’t own many, just two. I don’t get much use of them so maybe that’s why I haven’t got more in this shade, something I must rectify. I find the Rimmel by Kate Moss in 111 Kiss Of Life way too bright red for me so I’ve stayed away from it. The only other is the one I went for in the end & that’s the Mac Viva Glam Rihanna. I hadn’t dared to wear this as I heard so much on the bad side of reviews of Macs frosted lipsticks. I was going to keep it perfect as a collector’s item but I really don’t like to see things go to waste. I can honestly say I’m really happy with it, like ecstatically so. It’s a gorgeous red that just stands out it’s a POW! colour. The frost comes over as more of a multidimensional shade and not “Ah, I’ve got glitter all over them!”. This has a retro feel to it and I wouldn’t be ashamed to take this out my bag if I did need to top up my lipstick. It’s easily the most gorgeous packaged lipstick from Mac.
Nobodys Perfect – Except For Chloe Maybe
The only problem is I fail at eyeliner all the time more often that not it’s removed. It rarely makes it on my face and gets seen by the outside world. It’s just one of those things I’m still working on. With this look however there’s a little leeway that means I can fix a wonky line or two. Even lipstick is now easier to apply that eyeliner which I never thought would be the case. I applied the Maybelline Color Tattoo in On & On Bronze to my lid but kept it light handed. Then I quickly went in with my Mac 217 (or your fluffy blend brush of choice) to blend out along the crease. You can build this up as little or as much as suits but this gives more control. Next go in with the eyeliner, the Master Precise is just that it’s got a very fine nib so where you apply it is exactly where it goes. Just follow as close to the lash line as possible without going too close to the inner eye. If it goes wrong or a little wobbly take an angled eyeliner brush and use this in a similar way you use concealer to fix any lipstick mishaps.
Everything I Wore… But The Lipstick
Maybelline Color Drama Lipstick Pencils
Is it just me that’s getting a little excited about this one? I’m completely smitten with the Nars velvet lip pencils but they are rather expensive. Maybelline are bringing the colour and the velvet texture with their very own lip pencils. With 10 shades due to come to the UK out of the possible 22 shades available in the USA it’s only a guess other than the above shown which we get to try out. Simply described as a slim lip khol with a creamy texture these are high on my wishlist for Autumn. On my hit list already are the shades Berry Much & Nude Perfection. It looks like these should already be on the shelves of a local Boots or Superdrug already so I can’t wait for the weekend to do some shopping.
These are priced at £4.99 with Boots running a 3 for 2 offer on Maybelline.
Last year I didn’t own any lipstick at all. For me lipstick was something my hands didn’t have the ability to master. I couldn’t get an even line or even just apply it to my lips without staining my face in the process. I didn’t trust myself not to end up smearing it across my face. The thought alone of needing to reapply it without any wipes as backup was daunting. When I started blogging it was my choice to change & start caring more about myself. Makeup for me adds a boost of confidence that allows my inner madness to be shown without words. Here are my most loved lipsticks.
June’s been a bit of a good one in terms of experimenting with colour. Be it lips, eyes or cheeks I’ve picked one to go bold with which has made my June faves simple for me. Altering colours away from the same old bronze shade has changed looks that would otherwise be very much the same.
After my Smash box Always Sharp came to an end I was up for trying something new. First up is the Eyeko Skinny eyeliner a great freebie from …. It has added a touch of navy with superior wear and ease of use for a felt tip. Then came the testing of the Laura Mercier longwear creme pencils. Having a choice of five shades made this fun to play around with. It’s super creamy and opaque but once it’s set there’s no moving it. The shade range included bolds and more muted shades and all work as well as each other.
I know this has seen a favourites post or two before but when playing around with eye looks in shades of blue, green and purple I need a more toned down lip. This fell to the well loved Nars Velvet matte lip pencil in Sex Machine. It’s easy to apply and wears pretty well throughout the day. When I do need to top up it goes on no fussing around because of the nude shade it is.
I’m not sure this counts it’s not a product so much as a weight off my shoulders and head. Taking a good 6 inches off made my hair mote manageable and simply easier to maintain. Styling is quicker and I suppose my BlowPro You Only Smooth is definitely part of that. A saviour from heated appliance I don’t have to worry as much when I do get my Ghd’s out.
Very much a recent purchase but when Ross said something that made me proud I finally felt like what I’ve been saying may have gone in. It was along the lines of “When you tell me about how a moisturiser should help and make my skin feel better for it this is what this moisturiser does. Oh it also doesn’t make my forehead super shiny either that’s annoying” . Seems like something small but Ross explaining properly why he likes something is a bit of a miracle. The product he’s referring to is the Rehab Mens’s No Shine Moisturizer for oil control. It came from T.K.Maxx last week for £4.99 I think but retails around the £15 mark. He also said this was on par with the sample he had of the Clarins moisturiser that he loved means it would be worth repurchasing as its half the price of that.
Love Love Love and getting more use out of this one than the matte balm. Like both but love this more for an everyday look. It’s me in a rush but looking put together, I also like that if I want to eat I can wipe this off and afterwards swipe it back on in a jiffy.
Metcalf Cinnamon popcorn is to die for, it’s so good I can get through a share bag on my own. Even better is for a share bag it’s only 9 pro points. The popcorn isn’t over powered more like a good sprinkle of cinnamon. It means I can have something sweet without having to feel guilty as a whole bag takes ages to finish off. Best bit of all Ross doesn’t like it so no sharing either! lol
