Dramatic Pinks – Fotd

I feel like this could be the most non-spring look possible. I feel like I get away with it because it’s very pink! Not your every day pastels or sheer lip colours but something in your face & unapologetic. I guess most would wear this as a night time look but I did this in the day time & loved it. Strong eyes & strong lips complemented each other because my pale skin looked a little stark with just the eye make-up on. Either way let’s get down to how I put this one together, the base isn’t included as I did a very recent post on My Spring & Summer Foundation Routine.

Cara Delevingne Tom Ford Black Orchid – Get The Look

When I was younger I thought nothing of flicking past the advertisements to get to the good stuff. Nowadays I spend as much time breaking down the looks in my head to see if I would be able to do it. This advert of Cara Delevingne is stunningly beautiful which suits the campaign for Tom Ford Black Orchid. I’m sure in my dreams I’ll eventually spend the money & “invest” in one the many perfumes. Until then I will simply take Cara’s look to make it my own, with products that you can easily get your hands on.

10 Minutes Left – Took Too Long Doing My Hair #fotd

When it comes to time management when I’m getting ready I fail every time. I’ve cut out a lot of time by washing my hair the night before this means the last bit can be quickly blown dry. When it comes to my Ghds I think for me time stops, “let’s not burn your fingers or ears this time”, ” where’s that hair clip gone?” and ” did I use heat protector on that section?” all run through my head. I forget about everything else and time disappears. Reality kicks back in and were meant to leave in like 20 minutes or we’ll miss the bus that gives 10 minutes left for makeup and the other to run around & work out what I’m wearing.

10 minutes left - fotd - worn

When my brain eventually panics  I reach for my trusted makeup choices. I seem to have built this up around more expensive makeup but it’s just the things I know work or I can apply quickly. We all have different skin types and shades so steps could easily be swapped out for the pieces that work best for you.

Any guesses girls what Pjs I wore when I took this photo? Serious how did I miss that one!

10 Minutes Left – The Go To Kit

Primer

I just can’t get away without using one my gigantic pores need some form of filler to hide them at least from my sight. In I go with my long time friend my Benefit Porefessional. This is a complete love hate relationship as it’s fine with the foundation below but liquids can go either way. Few get along with this but I have a feeling it maybe me not giving it time to set? Any thoughts on this one let me know how you get on with it?

Foundation

For speed and a nice smooth coverage I reach for my Mac Studio Fix powder foundation. I can apply it with my blush brush all over & go back in where I need more coverage. If I’m not having a spotty phase then I’ll go without concealer but if I did I apply it first before the powder. I like that it’s light enough in shade and finely milled so it suits me great.

Set Your Powder

This may seem like extra work to something you’ve already applied but this helps to keep your makeup on your face for longer. It also removes that powder finish making it look more natural. My setting spray of choice is Urban Decays All Nighter. To speed this process up spray onto a large powder brush and pat across the face. It will dry faster this way rather that doing the four direct sprays. That’s because I hate getting that taste on my lips and having to wait 10 minutes just for it to dry.

Blusher

I don’t do contouring or bronzing not yet anyway. I do know however that you have to add colour back into the face or you’ll look 2D or zombie-fied! My Clinique All Over Colour in Poppy Plum Blend is just right for my talent level (zero). It has a shimmer that translates to a sheen where it becomes highlighter & blusher in one. This saves time and I always follow it with a little more setting spray.

Eyes

For this I used a light base shade all over then went in with a contour colour for depth. This month it’s been a half filled 4 Mac palette using Blanc Type (base) & Cork (contour). Love Blanc Type but in need of a deeper shade than Cork (suggestions?). I had to include the Mac 217 brush as it’s what I’ve used every time & it hasn’t failed me yet. I also did my brows with Macs brow pencil in Lingering this was purely picked up because it’s super speedy. I’m still not convinced it’s the right shade for me. It think the girl at Mac thought I was gonna sharpie my brows in and suggested the lighter shade option! On to mascara and for speeds sake I went for the 2true volume over the Revlon 3D PhotoReady mascara. For some reason its less work and hassle with the 2true, the same spiky plastic wand but easier to use. One coat and I have super black lashes.

I did a basic eye look at a more budget friendly price which is basically a dupe for the above here. Both work well but my Mac set is me building together a palette for traveling with that’s compact.

Lips

When I’m lacking on time I always forget about my lips until the last second purely because I find it something hardest to get right. If I’m not happy with what I’ve chosen I’ll be unhappy with it all day. I usually go for the Nyc Applicious Glossy Balm as it covers colour and fixed dry lips. I think these are being discontinued so my alternative that’s very similar is the Carmex Moisture Plus in Berry. It’s the only one with a decent amount of colour to it in the range. I love how compact it is so I can top up through the day.

Pink & Curls – Beyond The Comfort Zone #fotd

I’m not quite sure what I was thinking when decided to get ready this morning. I guess I’m just not you typical girly girl when it comes to blogging about makeup. I’ve had a long hate for curl so I’ve straightened my hair with Ghd’s for the last decade. Only in the last year have I allowed them to dry into a wavy mess. I’m not exactly fond of pink either at least on me. I wasn’t a fan of Barbie Dolls or of any kind of dolls full stop. When I went for the pink shade below it’s because I want to explore out of my comfort zone. Continue reading “Pink & Curls – Beyond The Comfort Zone #fotd”

Positively Dashing – A Mac Lipstick – Before & After #fotd

Today was a bit of a spur of the moment thing, it’s a sunny day & rarely that makes me want to take the day off work. Although that’s exactly what I did, it was 7.30 am and I knew I couldn’t be bothered to do my hair especially on a hot day like today. Out came the Batiste and put it up in a low bun. Next came the makeup & I kinda knew it needed to be simple, clean but I still wanted to look Positively Dashing with the hopes of it still being there by the end of the day.
