2014 is almost over. We can all look back to our best or worst memories of the last year and see that we made it to the end of it. For beauty bloggers it means seeing what make up we loved the most & what spring cleaning is needed as we head into 2015. I know make-up in it’s very basic form is superficial. What it means to me is a form of expression, what mood I’m in that day or the mood I want to be in. These are the beauty bits that have got me through the hot days & long nights.
Primer – Benefit The POREfessional
This has to be one of my most talked about products probably ever. As a girl with crater size pores this is my life saver. Until I can fix those pores POREfessional is here to smooth over everything. Weather as a base for my foundation or a little camouflage on a no make-up day this is my best friend.
Beauty Blender – Real Techniques Miracle Sponge
This little orange sponge is a bit of a liquid foundation fixer. For most of my foundation applications I used to just use my fingers. I bought this & haven’t turned back since. Get it wet. squeeze out the excess water & add your favourite foundation. This is great for getting your base even as it gets foundation into every nook & cranny. This also gives you the coverage where you want it and how much without looking cakey. I just bought my second one as I couldn’t do without it after I damaged the first, my fault!
Liquid Foundation – Revlon Colorstay Makeup For Normal To Dry Skin
This is as close to skin in a bottle as I’ve found in budget brands. It’s one of the lightest shades I’ve found that matches my pale skin. It can be built up to a medium coverage which is how I like it & the finish sits bang between matte and dewy. This is a great everyday foundation my only issue is there’s no pump & for the price there should be.
Powder Foundation – Mac Studio Fix +
This has been used almost every time I’ve done my make-up & it comes with me in my bag for touch-ups. There’s 50 shades to choose from which is massive even for more expensive brands. This was my go to in summer to help with the hot weather but I’ve worn it year round it’s hard to mess this up. Even with liquid foundation I usually add a little of this to set it.
Blush – Clinique All Over Colour
I’ve had this before 2014 but it has never let me down when I needed a little extra colour in my cheek & wasn’t sure what to go with. It can be applied sheer for an almost highlighter & blush in one. It has a sheen than reflects light without a particle of glitter in sight. It’s not cheap but I’ve used this countless times and I’m only starting to get a dent in the middle. The shade Poppy Plum blend is just beautiful.
Cream Shadow – Max Factor Excess Shimmer
This hasn’t been around for most of 2014 but it will be around for me well into 2015. A cream shimmery shadow in bronze where a little goes a very long way. This can be worn softly blended out or packed on for a bold shade. My only issue is the shade range is lacking in choice.
Water Line – Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl in Nude
This as you see by the packaging gets used a lot. We all get redness in our water line and this is perfect fr just that. I could try more expensive ones & eventually will but I’m happy with this one so I don’t need too. It stays in place all day, completely covers up any redness & makes your eyes look a little bigger in the process.
Eyeliner – Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil
This has been around the block and then some. What can you say about one of the most talked about eyeliners ever? I avoided this on that principle alone how can it be that good I said. Well I ate my words put my money where my mouth is and I love them. These are creamy, easy to apply, don’t irritate my eye s and last all damn day even after my make-up remover! I already have purchased more because of it.
Brows – Mac Eye Brows in Lingering
I know this isn’t the cheapest & you don’t get a hell of a lot of product but this makes life simple for me. I don’t need a brush like you do with powder so it’s travel friendly. The shade is perfect & luckily a Mac artist set me on the right colour. It’s hard to mess up the nib is very small, not hair thin but close enough to fill in sparse areas. If you over do it you can smudge it with a finger before it sets & then you don’t have to worry about fall out it’s there all day.
Mascara – Maybelline Big Great Lash
I know mascaras work differently on everyone so I won’t say about volume or length. What I will say is it separates lashes without clumping for as long as you want to build it up while it’s still wet. The brush has big bristles hence the name & I always pick blackest black up because life’s too short for brown!
Eyeshadow Base – Maybelline Color Tattoo Leather Effect
I know I have Benefit’s Lemonaid but this is a little of an all rounder product I’ve reached for more. It’s a cream shadow that dries down for an all over colour and once blended & set it’s not going anywhere. Creamy beige is also the perfect base, it’s shade suits perfect as a buffer between your main eyeshadow & the area under the eye brow. This is a good base for eyeshadows that tend to have fallout as it will stick to it while wet & hold in place better. Another one than needs more shades but I kinda fancy the vintage plum now as a possible base to Cliniques Black Honey shadow.
Lip Color – Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil
The shade Sex Machine is my most used colour this year and the velvet lip pencils are just simple to used. A long wear lip pencil is great but the shade is why I use it most. It’s for when I need a nude lip to go with daring eye looks. It’s more pink than nude but for me it fulfills that purpose. My only problem is when someone asks what shade it is… Sex Machine, it just feels weird even though I love it so.
Lip Treatment – Clinique All About Lips
Good things come in small packages and this took a leap of faith from another blogger 30somethingmel she is a trusted blogger & Youtuber time and again for me. A little bottle of lip cream which smooths over dry patches, helps to stop feathering & makes lipstick go on like a dream. What more could you want? This even helped Macs matte lipstick go on easier!
Lip Balm – Neutrogena Nourishing Lip Care with Nordic Berry
See something very purse friendly can still be highly loved. A simple lip stick lip balm but it just works better than the others I’ve tried. I like the berry scent to it that lingers, it seems to apply a thick coat without it feeling heavy you lips feel protected. I keep this in my bathroom as part of my skincare routine because its my favourite one.
That’s my round up of the best of 2014 , hope you find something in there you might like to try yourself. Let me know what your favourites have been too.
Hope everyone has a Happy New Year & let the resolutions begin!
