Kinky Boots – The Statement Red Lipstick At Mac

In a bit of Birthday spendy mood I went online & ordered a few Mac lipsticks. In a bid to change things up & try something new I choose shades I normally wouldn’t wear. I took a leap & ended up with Patisserie a pink shade with a lustre finish & Kinky a matte neutral red.

I can easily put the blame on Vivianna Does Makeup for Patisserie as she is always talking about this shade. Kinky on the other hand I think was my need for a red that wasn’t Ruby Woo. I don’t have anything against Ruby Woo but it’s all I seemed to hear about over the holidays.

Kinky Boots

The reason Mac did this Limited edition duo was due to Kinky Boots a film back in 2005 became a musical last year. It was nominated 13 times & won 6 Tony awards.

When I say statement I really do mean it, this one has taken me weeks to even leave the house wearing it. It’s a shock to the system but a good one, a bright bold red that has a retro feel to it. I was sad at the fact Mac didn’t give this a red shiny tube that it deserved like how beautiful the Viva Glam Rihanna one is. At the end of the day it’s the lipstick I will be wearing so I can live with it. This is a matte lipstick but not as painfully matte as Mac’s shade Diva. I did fix this problem with my secret weapon you can read in the post The Fix For Mac Matte Lipsticks. This however is much easier to use straight out of the bullet. It has enough of a creamy texture to get a smooth line but I do think a lip liner would be useful. I feel like I might be the only girl to deal with this but it feels like it’s so much harder to apply lipstick when you have a lip ring in, mmm just me then? Other than that it’s pretty long wearing & reasonably comfortable but not as much as the Nars Velvet Mattes.

What Goes With Kinky?

When I was working out what to pair with it I choose some black eyeliner & a slick of mascara. To keep the eyeliner from steeling the show (like it had a chance) I just went with the black shade above the lashes and not in the waterline. I left that up to my probably most used liner of all time, Rimmel’s Scandaleyes Kohl in Nude to brighten. I also would say don’t skip on blush as I’m pale to begin with but in contrast with the red it was even more so. I went with Revlon Colorstay because I knew it would take time to get the lipstick perfect & that’s the one that’s quickest for me. It’s a close dupe for a Mac foundation I had last year.

Would I buy this again if I had the choice? Yes because it’s so not me that I want to wear it. The whole gist of Kinky Boots is to be yourself and I want myself to be bolder/

Kinky is still available “shockingly” but online only for £15.50.
